Nigerian musician,   Naira Marley  is set to appear before the Lagos high court on Tuesday, October 22. He was arrested on May 10, 2019 alongside rapper,  Zlatan  Ibile, Rahman Jago, Guccy Branch and one other. The Opotoyi crooner was arrested for alleged money laundering. Marley, known for his single “Issa Goal”, was slammed with 11- count charges. Marley stands risk of spending 7 years in jail if found guilty in accordance with Section 33 (2) of the Cyber Crimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015. Justice Nicholas Onweibo had in May adjourned Naira Marley’s internet fraud case to October 22, 23 and 24 for accelerated hearing. He was granted a N2 million bail, with two sureties in a like sum. The anti-graft agency arrested Naira Marley on May 10 and was subsequently filed 11-count charge of alleged credit card fraud against him on May 14 in a suit marked FHC/L/178C/19.

A 23-year-old boy, Promise Uzoma and his cousin, Chukwuebuka Ogubuike, have been arrested for robbing a man of N250,000 and raping his housemaid at Umugbsi, Aba, AbiaState. Recalling the operation, Uzoma said: “When we got to a particular compound, we met the doors open. We entered and met the man, his wife and their maid. We pointed our gun at him and asked for money, his phones, and gold jewelry. He gave us N250,000 in cash and brought out all his gold jewelry. He cooperated because we threatened to kill him. I don’t know what came over me, but I raped his housemaid. I also wanted to rape his wife, but I left her because she was a nursing mother. After the operation, I got a Samsung phone and the sum of N100, 000. I didn’t bother about the gold. It was after I had been arrested that I learned the jewelry was worth N4.4million.” Uzoma, a trader, further added: “I sell clothes and footwears at Ojota Market in Lagos State. I used to buy clothes at Ariaria Market, in Aba.

A 30-year-old man, Mohammed Babangida, has been arrested for allegedly defiling a 9-year-old girl in Adamawa State. The man was picked up for the offense by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), following an intelligence reports from residents. Babangida, who responded to questions from newsmen, said he had given the girl N50 and N20 on two occasions and it was on the third occasion when he gave her N50 that he attempted to rape her. “I started but I did not finish,” he said, adding that someone knocked on the door and that was how it ended. He asked for leniency, saying, “I have not done it before and I will not try it again. I have a wife and children. The government should pity me and not ruin my family. I want to beg for forgiveness as a married man with children based in Bauchi; I don’t want this shameful thing to wreck my family.”

Social media activist, Segun Awosanya, popularly known as Segalink, has rejected the advice of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to write a petition against All Progressives Congress leader, Bola Tinubu. Segalink, who is the leader of the #EndSARS movement, said the EFCC did not need him to write a petition against Tinubu before going after the APC leader. The activist said the EFCC had been going after internet fraudsters and raiding night clubs without a petition. He tweeted, “The EFCC in their primitive chest-thumping about Section 7(1) of their Establishment Act of 2004, forgot that they have the same power over the likes of Tinubu as they do over alleged Yahoo boys to act based on probable case. According to SaharaReporters, the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr Ibrahim Magu, has said that the agency is planning to rehabilitate young people engaged in Internet fraud popularly known as ‘Yahoo Yahoo’ in Nigeria because they could be useful to the agency in future. Magu stated this in Lagos on Thursday while delivering a paper at the third All Administrators National Conference of the Chartered Institute of Administration, according to a report by PUNCH. While speaking on collaboration between the EFCC and other nations, Magu said the agency had secured collaboration with ECOWAS member-states to aid in prosecution of cross-border crimes. He said, “So if you carry money from Nigeria and escape to Ghana, we will just call the men in Ghana and say, ‘arrange this man and keep him for me. “This is what the ‘Yahoo-Yahoo boys’ like to do. But we are planning to rehabilitate them because they can be useful to us in future.”

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has consented to the request by the authorities of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) to float a jetty at the school’s waterfront to complement transportation on the campus. The Governor asked the school authorities to write a formal letter of request for immediate approval of the jetty, saying the Government would help the university to build capacity in water transportation. Sanwo-Olu made the disclosure during his keynote speech at the International Week organised by the school. He said: “I just had a discussion with the Vice Chancellor who informed me that the school needs a jetty to complement transportation within the campus.
